This campaign was conceived by JWT Hong Kong in collaboration with JWT London to commemorate HSBC 150th anniversary. The campaign idea is to show HSBC involvement in the development of Hong Kong, From transport, education, finance, housing to the economy. This campaign was shot during Hong Kong Umbrella revolution, and executing this campaign met with significant challenges in logistics and support.
To be authentic, we matched most of the 1920's - 1930's black and white photo with its original location. Sourcing the original site and getting the perspective to match the shots prove to be one of the toughest challenges for this campaign.
For this transportation layout, after identifying the final location, we have to build a platform to shoot from the height of the historic tram. Although the tram is still in operation, the road has narrow over the years. Matching the shot to the old photo was done realtime on location.
On the shoot day, we engaged hundreds of extra to walk the street according to achieved our desired result. Controlling traffic, matching shots, directing extras, and managing authority as the protest was just one street away from us.
